With so many boots available, it can become overwhelming when deciding which ones are best for your horse. The main purpose of all boots is to offer protection against knocks and scrapes, therefore it’s important to have the right boots for the right occasion, so with that in mind let’s discuss the main differences between tendon boots and fetlock boots. . .
Tendon Boots - Worn on the front legs only, they offer added protection to the tendons. They prevent the hind hooves from striking the front legs which is a potential danger when cantering or show jumping. They have an open front design, making them less likely to knock the poles off if you are jumping.
Fetlock Boots - Worn on the hind legs, they offer the same protection against knocks and scrapes, especially common from the opposite hind leg. These boots are smaller than tendon boots so it’s important to ensure they fit correctly before heading out or into the arena to compete.
